About the Japan trips

2018: Tokyo
for 1 week.
2026:
Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo for 10 days.
Here I'll list
all the Nintendo and Zelda-related things I have done in Japan!
I feel so lucky just to have been there at all. Definitely my
favorite country to visit, and I'm hoping we can go visit it
many more times in the future.
Nintendo
Headquarters

There are
several
different Nintendo buildings in Kyoto. One of them is more guarded than the other.
Standing infront of it definitely felt a bit surreal! I wonder
if Miyamoto was at work that day?
The Old Nintendo
Headquarters (Marukufuro Hotel)

This is the
original Nintendo Headquarters (when they used to make playing
cards) turned into a hotel. I'd love to actually spend a night
here, but since it's a luxury hotel, it's obviously a bit more
pricey..
Super Nintendo World

The Super
Nintendo World opened up at Universal Studios Japan in 2021.
They added the Donkey Kong World in 2024. And who knows, maybe
they'll add something Zelda in the future? During our visit in
march 2026 they also celebrated their 5th Anniversary with
special items and events.
Nintendo Museum

The Nintendo
Museum in Kyoto opened up in 2024. To get tickets, you have to
first enter the lottery. If you win, you get to purchase tickets
for selected dates through your MyNintendo account. You get a
ticket that acts as your play card that can be used inside of
the museum. The first floor has interractive games you can use
your card for (you spend "coins" on these), and the second floor
is the actual museum with a strict "no photo" policy. They also
have a cafe and a museum shop.
Editmode Open Office

The Editmode Store has the official
license to use Nintendo's characters and logos in their designs. They
have a "open office" once a month where customers can walk in and
purchase items directly. The owner and creator Enami Masaaki has a lot of his collection on
display inside of the shop for everyone to look at.
International Manga
Museum

A place to go
if you like manga! They have the hand-sculptures of Akira
Himekawa and some shikishis on display, as well as drawings and
signatures of many different artists in the cafe next door.
Nakano Broadway

Treasure
hunting is always fun! This is where you'll find most of the
special Mandarake stores, and highest chance for vintage and
rare Zelda stuff.
Super Potato

Super Potato
usually has a lot of the Japanese Zelda games, and sometimes
rare displays and posters. The store can be found in Tokyo,
Nagoya and Osaka.
Nintendo Stores

There are
currently 4 Nintendo Stores in Japan: Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and
Fukuoka.
84 Hashi Cafe

This is a
secret location bar owned by Toru Hashimoto, a former engineer
at Nintendo. I've known about it for years since I read about it
in Nindori magazines and online articles, so being finally able
to step into this place myself felt surreal. There are signed
artworks and tons of memorabilia to look at everywhere, and you
get to ask questions and learn the story behind each item. Hashi
and the staff are super humble and friendly, it was an amazing
experience that I would recommend to any video game fan.
I hope we can
come back to visit them again! (Note to self: remember to bring
the 84 Hashi Passport!)
